Paper presented at ECCV 2008

From 12th to 18th October, Christian Wojek and Paul Schnitzspan attended the European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV) in Marseille. ECCV comprehends significant papers from the large field of computer vision. The conference is a nice platform to get in contact with other researchers working in that area. Christian and Paul presented their papers addressing object detection and scene segmentation in single images and video sequences of rural roads. Both papers attracted many other researchers leading to fruitful discussions on extensions of the current models.

Paper presented at UBICOMM 2008

On October 2. we presented our paper "A3ME an Agent-Based Middleware Approach for Mixed Mode Environments" at the Second International Conference on Mobile Ubiquitous Computing, Systems, Services and Technologies (UBICOMM 2008). Here we introduced our ongoing work on middleware for heterogeneous networks. Ubiquitous computing area has many overlappings with our research area. So some of the presented papers there gave us new ideas for our future research. It was also a great opportunity to meet people working in similar areas.

Talk: "Multi-Camera Image Stitching for Video Sensor Networks" by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Effelsberg, University of Mannheim

Abstract: Video sensor networks with multiple cameras allow to record a scene from different perspectives at the same time. Often, it is desirable to stitch different camera images together to obtain a unified view. We propose an algorithm that allows to stitch views with different centers of projection together into a single panoramic image. A common trajectory is defined in two source images to be merged pairwise. Two convex combinations of a warped and a canonic coordinate are applied so that both source images fit together. Applications are

May 19-21: Annual Workshop of DFG funded Computer Science Research Training Groups in Dagstuhl

Overview :A significant number of graduate schools in Germany deals with different aspects of trustworthy software systems or closely related topics. The research training groups workshop 2008 at Dagstuhl castle is intended to bring together PhD students and professors from these related schools.
